2022 Honda CR-V rendered

Design leak allows graphic artists to provide a good look at vital next-generation Honda CR-V

Our best look yet at the incoming 2022 Honda CR-V has emerged via these fresh renders, which are reportedly based on design trademarks lodged by the Japanese car-maker for its all-important fifth-generation mid-size SUV that’s expected to launch later this year.

The work of Russian outlet Kolesa.ru, the renderings extend on earlier work presented last year and show the new Honda CR-V following the lead of the latest Honda Civic hatch by toning things down stylistically.

The images depict a clean-looking new aesthetic for the new CR-V, with most of its features proving subtle and easy on the eye – a stark contrast to the busy and bulky design of the current model that was launched in 2016.

Not a single panel appears to have been shared with today’s CR-V, as evidenced by a front-end that’s more squared-off and assertive than the current rounded fascia.

A deep, rectangular grille sits prominent above a large, aggressive lower intake.

Sharp angles and creases are also the trending touch here, with the exterior trim, headlights, daytime running lights and majority of the body contouring all being either well-defined or angular.

It’s a similar story at the rear where we find a much cleaner design than the current model, the only similarity being the vertically-oriented, high-set tail-lights on the rear pillars – a hallmark of the CR-V throughout its lineage.

Once again the presence of cleaner lines and sharper angles helps create a more modern look at the rear-end that has similarities with the Skoda Kodiaq.

Details are thin on the ground in terms of mechanical advancements for the new CR-V, however Honda Australia has previously confirmed that a hybrid powertrain would be available in our market for the first time.

The company is also pushing upmarket in Australia, so the next CR-V will likely be more lavishly equipped and thereby more expensive.

The new CR-V is widely expected to make its global debut in the coming months.
