2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia revealed

Sporty Alfa sedan gets styling updates and tech overhaul in bid to keep fight up to BMW 3 Series

The Alfa Romeo Giulia has been upgraded six years after it was launched, receiving both external and internal tweaks designed to boost its appeal.

Confirmed for an Australian launch in the first half of next year, the facelifted 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia takes inspiration from the new Tonale, with the mid-size sedan adopting a pair of new headlights that feature treble U-shaped light signatures designed to mimic the new baby Alfa SUV’s three individual lamps.

Like the Stelvio mid-size SUV that has also been refreshed for 2023, the Giulia headlights also pack new LED adaptive Matrix tech, plus new rear smoked tail-lights.

Inside, there’s a new 12.3-inch digital instrument panel that can be customised with three pre-set layouts – Evolved, Relax and Heritage.

Evolved is set to place a conventional speedo and rev counter either side of a trip computer, Relax reduces the level of information to a minimum while Heritage is set to replicate Alfa dashboards of the past.

Under the bonnet, there’s been little change, with the 206kW 2.0-litre turbo carrying over unchanged as well as the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel we don’t get in Australia.

Like before, all versions come equipped with an eight-speed automatic and the option of Alfa Romeo’s mechanical Q2 limited-slip differential.

It’s not known what will happen with the single Veloce trim we get in Australia, but in other markets the flagship Giulia Competizione gets a matte grey paint option, red brake callipers and new adaptive suspension.

In the cabin, the Competizione also gets a premium Harman Kardon sound system, leather-wrapped dash and sport seats with red stitching.

Pricing is expected to increase from the current starting price of $74,950 plus on-road costs for the Giulia Veloce.
