2023 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid teased

Corvette to embrace electrification and all-wheel drive for first time in 70-year history

General Motors has released its first official teaser for the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid and confirmed it will unveil the sports car on January 17.

No other details have been released on the new Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, but the teaser posted on Instagram suggests it will gain a more aerodynamic front-end design while pinching its side intakes and wider stance from the flagship Z06.

It will also keep the standard Stingray’s quad exhausts.

During the clip, the Corvette E-Ray driver demonstrates that the American Porsche 911 rival will also come with a Stealth mode that allows it to operate on battery power alone for short stints.

Powertrain details are still to be confirmed, but the E-Ray is expected to share the Stingray’s 6.2-litre V8 heart but add a battery, inverter and front-mounted electric motor.

Output is likely to be more than the 369kW/637Nm the Stingray produces, but less than the 500kW/623Nm the flagship 5.5-litre flat-plane-cranked V8 in the Z06 pumps out.

An earlier configurator leak revealed that the Corvette E-Ray will come with a special ‘ZER Performance Pack’ that adds lightweight rims, high-end Michelin tyres, carbon-ceramic brakes, race-spec regenerative braking and different paint and interior options.

Expect more teasers in the build-up to the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray’s debut next week.
