Ford Australia has revealed the upcoming 2023 Ford F-150 will be available Down Under in four guises – not just two as it originally announced – including XLT and Lariat grades in both short and long wheelbase forms.
Short-wheelbase versions of the factory-backed, locally ‘remanufactured’ F-150 will have 3683mm between their axles and a 1676mm tub, whereas LWB versions ride on a 3988mm wheelbase and come with a bigger 1981mm tub.
Pricing and availability details for Australia’s locally developed right-hand drive F-150 line-up, which was previously scheduled to enter production in mid-2023, are yet to be announced – but that hasn’t stopped full-size Ford pick-up fans lining up in droves to attempt to secure one.
According to the Blue Oval brand, more than 8000 expressions of interest have been placed since the F-150’s Australia market introduction was announced in March, while “thousands” of pre-orders have already been placed.
Ford Australia says it has subjected the RHD F-150 to the same durability testing program as the homegrown Ford Ranger and Everest sister models to ensure the big dual-cab can survive Aussie conditions.
“When F-150 hits Australian showrooms, customers can rest assured it’s been put through the same local durability programme as next-generation Ranger and Everest which, of course, is the same program left-hand drive F-150 went through in the States,” Ford Australia performance and customisation chief program engineer Dave Burn said.
“We’ve torture-tested, tuned and reworked the right-hand drive F-150 so that Aussie customers know they’re getting the full factory F-150 experience.
“We’re doing everything to make sure the truck will be right at home here in Australia.”
All versions of the 2023 Ford F-150 will be powered by a 3.5-litre turbo-petrol V6 good for 298kW/678Nm – which is competitive with the V8-powered Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (313kW/624Nm) and RAM 1500 (291kW/556Nm). But there will be no V8 or diesel options.
The XLT will be available in five different colours: Oxford White, Agate Black, Iconic Silver, Antimatter Blue and Carbonized Grey, the latter four of which are optional ‘prestige’ colours.
The more lavish Lariat variant, meanwhile, will be offered in all of those colours plus another prestige finish colour, Lucid Red.
“F-150 goes on sale in Australia in 2023. Pricing and final specification will be announced closer to market release,” a Ford said.
