The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV will be available in just one version when it arrives in Australia next month: the EQS 450 4MATIC priced at $194,900 plus on-road costs – $25,000 less than the equivalent sedan.
Available to order now, the GLS-size electric SUV takes over from the smaller GLE-Class based Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV as the most expensive high-riding electric Mercedes-Benz model on offer in our market.
This particular EQS SUV measures no less than 5125mm long, 1950mm wide, 1718mm tall and rides on a 3210mm wheelbase, making it bigger in every dimension than the EQE.
The big five-door wagon body offers seating for up to seven people – although the third row is best saved for kids – and 195 litres of boot space on offer behind the rear seats.
Fold the third row out of the way as you get up to 880L of space when the middle row is slid forward, and up to 2100L when it’s stowed flat.
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to learn the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV is loaded with more standard equipment than most people could list, with just some of the highlights including an AMG Line interior, leather upholstery, Nappa leather steering wheel, power adjustable Comfort seats with heating and ventilation, wood trim, 12.8-inch infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display.
Other features comprise a power-sliding second row, 64-colour active ambient lighting, wireless charging pads, panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone mirroring, 21-inch alloy wheels, Digital Light LED headlights, adaptive air suspension and a rear axle steering system.
Spend an extra $11,700 and the Comfort Plus package adds a rear-seat entertainment system, wireless headsets, comfort armrest, MBUX rear tablet, wireless phone charger, pillow-style rear head restraints, heated second and third rows and a heated steering wheel.
Also available is the innovative MBUX Hyperscreen Package ($6700), as seen in the EQS sedan.
The whole package is powered by a 265kW/800Nm dual-motor powertrain fed by a big 108.4kWh lithium-ion battery capable of being fast-charged at up to 200kW on DC power and yielding an effective cruising range of up to 592km on the NEDC cycle.
Mercedes says the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV’s battery takes 31 minutes to be charged from 10-80 per cent when using an ultra-fast charger, with up to 250km of range being added in just 15 minutes.
