2023 RAM 1500 Laramie Sport arrives

New full-size RAM pick-up variant adds some stylish touches to justify its near-$4000 price premium

RAM Trucks Australia has bolstered its full-size pick-up range with the addition of the new 2023 RAM 1500 Laramie Sport, first examples of which have starting trickling into local showrooms priced from $136,950 plus on-road costs.

That makes the new RAM 1500 variant $3995 pricier than the standard Laramie crew-cab when fitted with the optional RamBox tray storage system, which is standard on the new Laramie Sport.

Also distinguishing the newcomer apart from its donor vehicle are unique 20-inch alloy wheels and a colour-coded grille, bumpers and mirrors, while a black headliner and black carbon-fibre-effect trim inserts add to sporty flavour within the cabin.

The rest of the Laramie Sport’s equipment list reads identically to the standard Laramie’s, meaning highlights include a 19-speaker harman/Kardon sound system, 12.0-inch infotainment system, leather-accented upholstery, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera, a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster and eight-way power-adjustable front seats.

Under the bonnet is the same 5.7-litre mild-hybrid HEMI V8 as the rest of the DT-series RAM 1500 variants, outputting 291kW of power and 556Nm of torque via an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4x4 system.

As with its stablemates, the Laramie Sport flaunts a 4500kg maximum braked towing capacity.

“Australia's favourite premium full-size pickup truck now sports a new edition,” said RAM Trucks Australia national manager Jeff Barber.

“The 1500 Laramie Sport full-size pickup combines all the benefits of a ute with the comfort, space and premium finishes of a luxury SUV.

“This unique proposition allows a range of customers to travel business class whether they’re towing, on work sites, on family road trip adventures, or even doing the school run.”

The Laramie Sport arrives as RAM Trucks Australia prepares a new price-leading version of the fifth-generation DT-series RAM 1500 dubbed the Big Horn, to replace the older DS-series RAM 1500 range that’s now in runout.

The Laramie Sport’s local introduction follows a record sales month for RAM Trucks Australia, which delivered 1172 new locally-converted RAM 1500 vehicles to customers in June alone, notching up over 25,000 total sales since the RAM brand was launched here as a factory-backed operation in 2017.

Its year-to-date sales tally – as of June 30 – sits at 4156 units, marking a big 61.6 per cent upswing compared to the same period last year.
