The return of an eight-cylinder (V8)-powered RAM 1500 is edging closer for Australia, with local executives confirming the Ford F-150 Raptor-slaying TRX is under “serious consideration” as the supercharged pick-up readies for its North American launch later this year.

The 2027 RAM 1500 TRX SRT has been detailed for North America, where it’ll arrive in the second half of 2026 powered by a 6.2-litre hemispherical combustion chamber (HEMI) eight-cylinder delivering a cool 579kW (or 777hp) and 922Nm, making it the “fastest and most powerful production gas-powered pick-up” yet, according to the US manufacturer.
That’s a 56kW/40Nm uptick over the last HEMI-powered RAM 1500 TRX Final Edition sold Down Under and is enough to hurtle the pick-up from zero to 60 miles per hour (97km/h) in a claimed 3.5 seconds.
Those figures will also see it outpace the Ford F-150 Raptor with its supercharged V8 serving up 536kW/868Nm.

Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with full-time four-wheel drive (4WD), the TRX is set to nab standard equipment such as 18-inch wheels with 35-inch tyres, raised suspension with active Bilstein dampers, a sports exhaust and a new airbox for improved cooling and power.
Up front, the grille features bright red RAM lettering and an SRT badge, while a pair of red recovery hooks are mounted below, and a TRX sticker kit is plastered down each side of the performance ute.
Elsewhere, gloss black exhaust tips, skid plates, functional bonnet scoop, and an array of terrain-specific drive modes are expected.

The more efficient but less powerful 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine dubbed ‘Hurricane’ was introduced in 2024 as the V8 was phased out, however, the company has since admitted dropping the V8 engine was a mistake.
Now, if the RAM 1500 TRX SRT is green lit for Oz, it would arrive as the most potent full-size pick-up available.
“We are super-excited about the new RAM SRT TRX. The first-generation RAM TRX was a popular addition to our line-up when it was previously available,” said RAM Trucks Australia’s general manager Jeff Barber.
“While we have nothing to announce today, we are happy to say, ‘watch this space’.
“Although the new RAM SRT TRX is not yet confirmed for our market, it is under serious consideration.”
