A lighter, faster and more extreme 2024 BMW M4 CS will launch next year, spearheading the introduction of updated versions of the core BMW M4 coupe and M3 sedan.
Locked in for a mid-2024 landing, the BMW M4 CS has been developed to bridge the gap between the core M4 Competition (priced from $176,900) and the wild, most-track-focused M4 CSL built in limited numbers and costing $303,900 plus on-road costs in Australia.
Confirming the BMW M4 CS was on the way, BMW M boss Frank van Meel told Autocar that the fast new M4 would arrive in dealerships globally by the “middle of next year”.
Its debut is set to be timed with the introduction of facelifted BMW M3 and M4, plus the launch of the all-new BMW M5 and M5 Touring that will also be introduced in 2024.
van Meel wouldn’t provide any further details on the BMW M4 CS, but it’s widely thought the coupe will borrow its powertrain from the 2023 BMW M3 CS launched earlier this year and priced from $249,900 plus ORCs.
If so, expect the BMW M4 CS to come standard with a 30kW power hike to 405kW from the twin-turbocharged S58 3.0-litre straight-six.
Torque should be capped at 650Nm, which will provide for an incredible 0-100km/h sprint of less than 3.4 seconds if the M4 CS gets the super-sedan’s all-wheel drive and quick-shifting eight-speed auto.
Top speed, meanwhile, is expected to be limited at around 305km/h.
Sharpening up the BMW M4’s act, the CS is expected to be primed to receive a host of performance upgrades including stiffer engine mounts, a revised active differential, lighter sports exhaust and numerous lightweight parts and aerodynamic tweaks to maximise agility on road and track.
As far as the suspension goes, the M4 CS should get a more aggressive camber set-up, bespoke dampers, stiffer springs and grippier track-focused tyres. More powerful carbon-ceramic brakes will also be an option.
Carbon-fibre is expected to be used for the bonnet, front splitter, rear spoiler and front air intakes.
Inside, it’s not known if the M4 CS will follow the lead of the bigger M5 CS and lose its rear bench seat for a pair of lighter pews.
