BMW has begun teasing its new-generation 2024 BMW X2 and all-electric BMW iX2, releasing a video that shows the small SUV’s redesigned illuminated kidney grille and more rakish coupe-style body.
The shadowy teaser shows how designers will illuminate the outer edge of the thin BMW X6-inspired grille and employ BMW X1-shaped headlights and new twin vertical blade daylight running lights.
Equally revealing is the side profile that shows how the next BMW X2 will be less a high-riding hatch and more of a sleek SUV-coupe.
Other take-aways include a rear tailgate spoiler, shark’s fin antenna and pronounced front and rear overhangs.
The next X2 will come with both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid combustion engines and all-electric powertrains (iX2).
From launch, expect a fast X2 M35i xDrive that will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol to produce 233kW.
The flagship all-electric version, meanwhile, will come with dual motors to produce around 230kW. Combined with a 64.7kWh battery, the iX2 eDrive30 should have a range of around 450km.
Inside, the new BMW X2 is expected to share the BMW X1’s cabin architecture that includes the car-maker’s twin screens.
Some rear headroom will be sacrificed on account of that sloping roofline.
There’s no word yet when BMW will reveal the new X2, but it could be at next month’s LA motor show.
