BMW has announced a stand-out version of the style-focussed BMW X2 small SUV ‘coupe’, and you’re almost certain not to miss it.
Set to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2021, the new special-edition is based on the top-spec front-wheel drive BMW X2 sDrive20i M Sport (normally priced from $56,900 plus ORCs).
That means power will come from the same 141kW/280Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to Bimmer’s seven-speed dual-clutch auto.
The exterior of the 2021 BMW X2 M Mesh Edition can be coated in an exclusive new Brooklyn Grey metallic paint colour, but Alpine White, Phytonic Blue or Sunset Orange metallic can also be requested.
That paint is contrasted by bright orange decals on the bonnet, the sides of the front bumper and on the doors. If the white, blue or orange paint colour is chosen, the decals are black instead of orange.
The BMW X2 special-edition also features a gloss-black BMW M mesh kidney grille, with inserts painted in a “mocha-like shade” known as Frozen Black-Brown metallic, which is also found on the bumper trim, side skirt cladding, wheel-arch trim and more.
Inserts on the big 20-inch M wheels reflect the same colour as the SUV’s decals (orange or black).
BMW says that, for the first time on an X2, the Mesh Edition will come standard with the Individual high-gloss Shadow Line package, which adds gloss-black windows surrounds, mirror caps, B-pillar trim and C-pillar surrounds.
Other sporty BMW additions include M stainless steel pedals, an M leather steering wheel and a key fob with M identifier.
LED headlights, a panoramic roof and a 470-litre boot all come standard, while in another first, the driver’s exterior mirror of the Mesh Edition will project an X2 logo onto the ground.
The C-pillars also come with special BMW logos that the car-maker says references classic models such as the 2000 CS and 3.0 CSL.
Inside the cabin, M sport seats are covered in a mix of leather Mocha/Alcantara, and come with contrasting orange stitching, which extends to the centre console and instrument panel as well as the floor mats.
On-board is a 10.25-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay, digital radio, real time traffic alerts and more. A head-up display and wireless smartphone charging is also standard.
The BMW X2 M Mesh Edition will also link up with the BMW ConnectedDrive Services, which Bimmer says allows the driver to organise their daily routines both inside and outside the car.
The BMW Connected app will also allow the driver to lock and unlock the X2 remotely, as well as display its current location or send a destination from a smartphone to the car’s navigation system before starting a journey.
Pricing for the 2021 BMW X2 M Mesh Edition will be announced closer to its arrival in local showrooms early next year.
