Chery Australia has released its third model – and its third SUV – following the Chery Omoda 5 and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, with the larger 2024 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max priced from $41,990 drive-away.
Rolling into dealers this week, the all-new seven-seat mid-size SUV will compete with established three-row family SUVs like the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-TRAIL and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max is now available in three model grades – Urban, Elite and Ultimate – all powered by a Euro 6 emissions-compliant 180kW/375Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine combined as standard with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.
But whereas the Urban and Elite are front-wheel drive, the top-spec Ultimate comes with all-wheel drive as standard.
Chery says front-drive versions return combined-cycle fuel consumption of 8.1L/100km, while the AWD Ultimate’s figure is 8.7L/100km. Fuel tank capacity is 57 litres and all variants require premium 95RON fuel.
The entry-level Tiggo 8 Pro Max Urban is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels (with a space-saver spare), roof rails (with 50kg capacity) heated and ventilated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch infotainment touch-screen with sat-nav and a matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Also standard at base level is an air-quality management system, three drive modes, ‘Hello Chery’ voice command, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, wireless phone charger, 360-degree camera, ambient interior lighting and LED exterior lighting.
The mid-range Elite builds on this with a powered tailgate, heated wing mirrors, built-in dash-cam, third-row air-vents with fan speed control, illuminated ‘Tiggo’ door sills and a retractable cargo blind.
As well as AWD, the Ultimate flagship adds 19-inch alloys, three off-road driving modes (in addition to the three on-road modes offered in the 2WD Urban and Elite), a cabin fragrance system, puddle lamps, a panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker Sony sound system, the no-cost option of brown (instead of black) interior trim and privacy glass.
Safety is covered off with autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, emergency lane keeping, a driver monitoring system, speed limit information, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist and tyre pressure monitoring.
Airbags number 10, including dual front, driver’s knee, front centre, side (front and second row) and side curtain airbags (which don’t extend to the third row).
The Tiggo 8 Pro Max measures 4720mm long, 1860mm wide and 1705mm high, and rides on a 2710mm wheelbase, which puts it in the same ballpark as other medium SUVs available with seven seats, such as the Outlander, X-TRAIL and Allspace.
With all seven seats in place, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max has 117 litres (VDA) of boot space, and 479 litres (VDA) with the third row folded.
Eight exterior paint colours are offered, including Lunar White at no cost and, for an additional $600, premium hues including Star Silver, Rhine Blue, Loran Violet, Mercurial Grey, Technical Grey, Aurora Green and Space Black.
Maximum braked towing capacity is rated at just 1300kg braked (750kg unbraked), with a 75kg tow ball download limit.
All Tiggo 8 Pro Max vehicles are covered by Chery Australia’s generous seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, plus seven years of roadside assistance and a seven-year capped-price servicing scheme.
