Chery Australia has confirmed its third new-generation model for the Australian market in the form of the 2024 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max, which will be offered here in three guises from April.
Pricing and specification details for the inbound seven-seat large SUV haven’t been announced yet, but the Chinese brand has at least confirmed that Urban, Elite and Ultimate trim levels will be available, the latter incorporating all-wheel-drive.
All versions of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max will come with a 180kW/375Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine matched as standard to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Tiggo 8 Pro Max will mark Chery’s entrance into Australia’s large SUV segment, in which it will face off against established favourites like the Kia Sorento, Toyota Kluger and Skoda Kodiaq, albeit for a substantially lower asking price.
“We are delighted to introduce the Tiggo 8 Pro Max to the Australian market,” Chery Australia managing director Lucas Harris said.
“This modern and innovative seven-seat family SUV expands the Chery range in Australia and is set to deliver a premium motoring experience.”
Given the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro mid-size SUV tops out at $45,990 drive-away before options, we expect the Tiggo 8 Pro Max to start somewhere around the $43,000 mark and stretch into the mid-$50,000 bracket.
All variants will be covered by Chery’s range-wide seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, with pricing and specification details set to be announced in the lead-up to the model’s launch in the second quarter of this year.
Just as the local Chery Omoda 5 small SUV portfolio has been expanded a year or so on from its release, it shouldn’t be too long before Chery Australia confirms the local launch of the Tiggo 7 Pro e+ and Tiggo 8 Pro e+ plug-in hybrids, both of which will deliver vastly superior performance, efficiency and versatility compared to their turbo-petrol counterparts.
