2024 Ford E-Tourneo Courier EV revealed

Ford’s new battery-powered compact wagon set to fill gap left vacant by Fiesta and EcoSport

The all-electric 2024 Ford E-Tourneo Courier has been unveiled in Europe.

Based on the second-generation Ford Transit Courier compact van, the new Ford Tourneo Courier offers space for up to five occupants.

The battery-electric E-Tourneo Courier will launch in Europe in the second half of 2024, joining the combustion-engined models that are due to arrive late this year.

All versions share plenty with the current Ford Puma small SUV, the EV version of which is locked in for launch in Australia during 2024.

There’s no word yet on whether the E-Tourneo Courier will also be one of the handful of EVs heading Down Under by the end of next year, but it’s not likely to be a high priority for the Blue Oval brand here.

The other EVs that are confirmed include the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV (later this year) and the Ford E-Transit (this month) and E-Transit Custom (next year) commercial vans.

Sitting on the same B2E platform as the Puma, the Tourneo Courier is an indirect replacement for the discontinued Fiesta light hatch and the EcoSport crossover.

While the petrol-powered version is set to become the cheapest Ford offered in Europe, the electric wagon has been developed as a “fun EV” and has been described by Ford president Jim Farley as the “future of Ford in Europe”.

Driven by a 100kW/290Nm single electric motor that drives the front wheels, the EV wagon is said to have a top speed of 145km/h and can be charged at up to 100kW.

At that rate, a 10-80 per cent top-up is claimed to take less than 35 minutes, with around 87km added in 10 minutes.

It’s thought the total range will be around 370km, but Ford says it will release full details, including its battery capacity, closer to its 2024 debut.

The same battery-electric powertrain will be used on the incoming Puma EV, which will sit below the recently revealed Explorer SUV in Europe.

Helping appeal to those who would normally buy an SUV, Ford will offer the boxy Tourneo Courier in a new rugged Active trim that gets extra plastic cladding around the wheel-arches and side sills, along with roof rails and 17-inch alloy wheels.

On the combustion side, the entry-level Tourneo Courier comes with a 92kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that can be combined with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Inside, the E-Tourneo Courier features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 12-inch infotainment system, the latter running Ford’s latest SYNC4 operating system that provides for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The combustion Tourneo Courier comes standard with a smaller 8.0-inch system, with the larger system thought to be available as an option.

Pricing will be revealed closer to launch, but when both versions go on sale they will face fierce competition from the likes of the Citroen Berlingo and Opel Combo Life, among others.
