2024 Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe: Australian pricing

Korea’s answers to the BWM X5 and X6 now have price points to match, starting almost $20K higher than before at $130,000

The facelifted 2024 Genesis GV80 and new 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe are now rolling into Aussie showrooms, priced from $130,000 excluding on-road costs.

This represents a price rise of almost $20,000 compared to the pre-facelifted large luxury SUV, while the new ‘coupe’ version of the Korean’s brand’s flagship SUV costs an extra $6000 and $136,000 plus ORCs.

Apart from the addition of the new five-seat Coupe body style, which is now available alongside six- and seven-seat versions of the upgraded wagon, Hyundai’s luxury brand has slashed the GV80 range and now offers just one highly-specified equipment grade, one engine type and just two options – rear seat entertainment screens pre-loaded with Netflix ($4500) and matte paint ($2000).

Korea’s answer to the BMW X5 (from $134,900) and Mercedes-Benz GLE (from $144,900) starts at $130,000 for the seven-seat wagon, rising to $133,000 for the six-seat wagon – equipped with twin business-class second-row chairs – and $136,000 for the flagship five-seat GV80 Coupe, which boasts a sportier looking body shape to rival the likes of the Audi Q8, BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

The 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder (204kW/588Nm) and 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder (224kW/422Nm) engines in the outgoing GV80 have been axed, meaning only the top-spec 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 (279kW/530Nm) engine remains, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is still available in overseas markets, but Genesis says diesel is dead globally.

A more potent and efficient version of the 3.5-litre V6 (305kW/549Nm) enhanced by a 48-volt electric supercharger is offered in left-hand drive markets like the USA, but isn’t available to right-hand drive countries like Australia.

Part of the considerable price rise is due to the fitment of the Luxury Pack as standard for all models (formerly a $10,500 option), while other big-ticket upgrades for the facelifted GV80 include a mega 27-inch OLED screen that integrates the digital instrument cluster and infotainment display, plus a digital rear-view mirror, 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, heated centre armrest and new-look climate controls and steering wheel.

There are 11 new exterior paint colour choices along with 11 interior décor colour options and five trim garnishes to select from, while all vehicles come with Nappa leather seat and cabin upholstery, not to mention the Korean luxury brand’s new connected car services, adding vehicle parking location tracking along with several remote vehicle operations.

The exterior features a fresh new look front and rear, including re-sculpted bumper sections, a new crest grille, updated 22-inch alloy wheel designs and what Genesis calls MLA – micro-lens array LED headlights with intelligent functionality.

Safety systems have been enhanced with the fitment of improved highway driving assist, forward collision avoidance assist, lane following assist (with hands-on detection) and remote smart parking assist systems.

An in-cabin camera (ICC) has also been added, positioned on the steering column and facing the driver to analyse eye movements and driver attention, and issues audible and visual warnings if the driver isn't focused on the road.

The GV80 Coupe flagship gets a few extra features, such as unique carbon-fibre interior trim, contrast stitching and seatbelts, aluminium pedals, a flat-bottom steering wheel, Sport+ driving mode and ‘Flex Brake’, which Genesis says makes the brake pedal feel firmer to improve modulation and feedback.

On the outside, the GV80 Coupe gets unique 22-inch alloy wheels, a more aggressive front bumper design, twin exhaust outlets (hidden on wagons) and a sporty rear spoiler.

When it comes to boot space, the SUV reigns supreme with 735 litres of cargo space (when the third-row seats are folded flat) versus the Coupe’s 644 litres, expanding to 1097 litres and 1033 litres respectively.

All Genesis vehicles come with a five-year warranty and five years/50,000km of free servicing based on 10,000km/12-month service intervals. Complimentary 24/7 roadside assistance lasts for 10 years and the five-year ‘Genesis to You’ service includes a courtesy vehicle when your GV80 is in the workshop.

In 2023, Genesis sold 403 GV80 wagons, making it the brand’s second-best seller behind the slightly smaller and less expensive GV70 mid-size premium SUV, which amassed 1190 sales last year.

“Since its launch in 2020, GV80 has paved the way for our brand’s growing portfolio of luxury SUVs, establishing itself as our flagship model,” said the head of Genesis Motors Australia, Justin Douglass.

Thus far in 2024, Genesis GV80 sales are up just over 20 per cent. Watch this space for our first drive this Friday (May 3).
