Hyundai Australia has confirmed its box-fresh new-generation 2024 Santa Fe Hybrid will be joined in December by a Sonata-powered turbo-petrol version, expanding the line-up from five variants to 10.
The move should also see the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe’s entry price drop back down towards the $52,000 mark after the initial shock of the hybrid’s $55,500 plus on-road costs starting figure, which marked an increase of almost $10,000 compared to the previous base Santa Fe.
As per the hybrid, the Santa Fe petrol will be offered with all-wheel drive as standard across the range – except for the entry-level variant, which will be front-drive as standard with the option of AWD – while transmission duties will be handled by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The engine itself is a mildly detuned version of the 2.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder that powers the Hyundai Sonata N-Line sports sedan, which in this application outputs 206kW/422Nm and should return a combined fuel consumption somewhere in the low to mid-8.0L/100km bracket.
These numbers compare to the hybrid’s 172kW/367Nm outputs and 5.6L/100km consumption, meaning the petrol Santa Fe will be the way to go for those with an appetite for performance.
All Santa Fe AWDs will offer Hyundai and Kia’s ‘multi terrain’ off-road drive modes, which tailor the powertrain and traction control systems to match snowy, muddy or sandy conditions.
For those who missed our Santa Fe Hybrid pricing coverage, equipment highlights for the eponymous base trim include 20-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment interface.
Also standard at base level will be keyless entry/start, dual-zone climate control, cloth upholstery, six-speaker sound, a powered tailgate, dual-device wireless charging pad, over-the-air (OTA) updates and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
The Elite adds remote smart parking, a Bose sound system, leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, Bluelink connected services, UV-C sanitisation tray and a 10-way power-adjustable front passenger seat.
At the top of the tree, the Calligraphy grade adds a glass sunroof, digital rear-view mirror, head-up display, Nappa leather trim, a front seat relaxation function and position memory, plus black exterior trim treatment and a C-pillar grab handle to help access the roof.
Pricing details of the petrol variants will be announced closer to their local release but as referenced above, they are expected to start at least a couple of thousand dollars below the equivalent hybrids – prices for which can be found below.
The new petrol-powered Santa Fe’s Australian arrival could also coincide with the local introduction of the XRT off-road pack, which is expected to bring more ground clearance, chunkier tyres and some tougher design cues.
