The 2024 Isuzu MU-X line-up has been detailed ahead of its local release on April 2, headlined by a smaller and more affordable 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine.
As already seen on the Isuzu D-MAX ute, the 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine outputs 110kW of power and 350Nm of torque – well down on the continuing 3.0-litre diesel (140kW/450Nm).
The smaller engine sees the braked towing capacity reduced from 3500kg to 3000kg, although fuel economy improves by up to 0.9L/100km compared to the gutsier 3.0-litre – 7.4L/100km versus 7.8L/100km (4x2) and 7.4L/100km vs 8.3L/100km (4x4).
The 1.9-litre engine will be available in three of nine 2024 Isuzu MU-X models arriving in showrooms soon, limited to LS-M (4x2 and 4x4) and LS-U (4x4) grades.
The LS-M 4x4 starts from $47,400 plus on-road costs – $2000 less than the equivalent 3.0-litre – while the LS-M 1.9 4x4 opens at $53,400 and the LS-U 1.9 4x4 is available from $59,900 plus ORCs.
With the 2024 model year, the carryover 3.0-litre versions of the MU-X have copped a price increase of between $500 and $2000, depending on the variant.
“Increasing the price of the 24MY MU-X range was a decision not taken lightly, with all options deeply considered,” said Isuzu Ute Australia managing director Junta Matsui, referencing increasing production and shipping costs as the driving factor.
“We’re confident that value for money has been maintained across the 24MY MU-X range and the addition of the 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine gives customers a more affordable option – not just at the showroom, but down the track, as it is up to 10 per cent more fuel-efficient than our 3.0-litre engine.”
No changes have been made to the MU-X standard equipment list across the range.
Key features on the base LS-M grade include 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, polyurethane steering wheel and gear selector, a 7.0-inch infotainment system, smartphone mirroring, digital radio, a four-speaker sound system, keyless entry, a reversing camera and LED headlights.
The LS-U adds 18-inch alloys, tyre pressure monitoring, dual-zone climate control, a 9.0-inch infotainment interface with native sat-nav, eight-speaker sound system, walk-away locking, LED fog lights, powered tailgate and front parking sensors.
Flagship LS-T variants up the ante with 20-inch alloys, leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, remote engine start and LED ambient interior lighting.
All Australian-market MU-X SUVs feature an Asin six-speed automatic transmission while the 4x4s come with Rough Terrain Mode, low-range gearing and a locking rear differential.
