2024 Isuzu MU-X Tour Mate introduced

Special-edition MU-X is aimed at those with a penchant for remote travel

Isuzu Ute Australia (IUA) has doubled down on its Tour Mate nameplate and applied it to the back of an MU-X, with pricing set at $73,990 drive-away.

Based on the flagship LST grade, the 2024 Isuzu MU-X Tour Mate bundles in more than $9200 worth of “commonly selected” accessories – bull bar, tow bar, 12-pin wiring harness, electronic brake controller, extendable towing mirrors – to create not far off the ultimate Isuzu tourer.

Some ‘Tour Mate’ badging and unique decals round out makeover, with the package otherwise presenting as a stock standard MU-X LST: 20-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, keyless entry and start, a 9.0-inch infotainment system playing though an eight-speaker sound system, smartphone mirroring, sat-nav and dual-zone climate control.

No changes have been made to the mechanical set-up, meaning the 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine continues to output 140kW/450Nm, is still paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and still sends its power to a part-time 4x4 system.

A low-range transfer case is included as standard, as is a rear differential lock and rough terrain mode, while the 3500kg maximum braked towing capacity is also unchanged.

“With the D-MAX Tour Mate proving popular since its introduction in August 2024, it was only natural that we offer a Tour Mate special edition to our MU-X customers,” said IUA deputy managing director Koichiro Yoshida.

“For years, the Tour Mate badge represented towing- and touring-ready capability, along with value for money.

“The 2024 Isuzu MU-X Tour Mate is no exception, a highly equipped vehicle that offer motorists adventures direct from the showroom.”

Previous iterations of the MU-X Tour Mate were introduced towards the end of a model’s tenure, more specifically within 12 months of an update, facelift or new-generation coming to market, and that looks to be the case this time around too.

The facelifted 2025 Isuzu MU-X is expected to arrive on Aussie soil in the first half of next year and introduce a bold new look and newfound levels technology, if the same basic mechanicals and chassis.
