2024 KGM SsangYong Torres pricing announced

Sub-$40k drive-away entry point locked and loaded for tough-looking Torres

SsangYong Australia has formally rebranded itself as KGM SsangYong Australia and simultaneously announced the local pricing and specification details of the inbound Torres medium SUV.

Starting from $38,000 drive-away, the 2024 KGM SsangYong Torres will be offered Down Under in three guises as of next month, comprising the base ELX, mid-range Adventure ($43,000) and flagship Ultimate ($47,000) – mirroring the hierarchy of the bigger Rexton seven-seater and Musso pick-up truck.

All grades share the same 120kW/280Nm turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and Aisin six-speed automatic transmission, however only the top-spec Ultimate is all-wheel-drive.

Fuel consumption ranges from 7.4-7.9L/100km while CO2 emissions are pegged at 169-181g/km – each figure depending on the drive configuration.

Standard equipment highlights on the ELX include 18-inch alloy wheels, electric power steering, dual 12.3-inch displays, LED headlights, smartphone mirroring, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass and an electronic park brake.

The Adventure trim adds a powered tailgate, heated front seats and steering wheel, faux leather upholstery, LED fog lights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and tyre pressure monitoring.

At the top of the tree, the Torres Ultimate goes further again with 20-inch wheels, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, powered sunroof, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery and heated rear-outboard seats.

Every variant comes with autonomous emergency braking, eight airbags, lane keep assist and departure warning, forward collision warning, front vehicle start alert, high beam assist, safety distance alert, driver attention alert, multi-collision braking, trailer stability assist and an idle stop/start system.

KGM SsangYong says the Torres was designed to be “bold, rugged and confident” from the outset which is why the Ultimate is fitted with an ‘AWD lock’ for tackling trickier terrain, however with a wading depth of just 300mm and no low-range gearing means it’s hardly going to chase a Rexton far off the beaten path.

Grand White is the default colour option while Space Black, Iron Metal, Dandy Blue and Forest Green all attract a $595 premium.

Boot space is rated at a sizeable 703 litres, expanding out to 1526 litres when the reclining second row is stowed.

As with all KGM SsangYong products, the Torres is covered by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.

How much does the 2024 KGM SsangYong Torres cost?
ELX FWD – $38,000
Adventure FWD – $43,000
Ultimate AWD – $47,000
* Prices are drive-away
