Mazda Australia has announced a raft of updates for the incoming 2024 Mazda CX-30 range, headlined by a sporty G25 GT SP model that replaces the outgoing Touring SP.
Manual transmission and hybrid powertrain variants have also been axed.
Available in both front- and all-wheel drive layouts, the new Mazda CX-30 G25 GT SP (pictured) slots in between the mid-spec G25 Touring and the range-topping G25 Astina, priced from $42,190 plus on-road costs for the front-drive variant.
The all-wheel drive GT SP commands a $2000 premium.
Standard equipment for the sporty new grade includes a blacked-out grille, wheels and mirror caps, along with a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, sunroof, wireless phone charging, Burgundy leather upholstery and a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
When the upgraded CX-30 goes on sale in Australia in January 2024, Touring and Astina grades will also nab the new Mazda Connect 10.25-inch central display.
The 2024 Mazda CX-30 range will start $2380 higher than before thanks to the culling of the G20 Pure manual option, with the automatic CX-30 G20 Pure now opening proceedings from $32,990 plus ORCs, up $1380 compared to the model it replaces.
The axing of the sole manual CX-30 variant comes after the Japanese car-maker recently cut the manual transmission from its Mazda3 and CX-5 line-ups and means the CX-30 will be an auto-only offering from 2024.
Elsewhere, the Japanese car-maker has discontinued its eSkyactiv X 2.0-litre powertrain and now employs a new 114kW/200Nm Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine for its front-drive G20 models.
Said to be more frugal than before, claimed combined-cycle fuel consumption has dropped to 6.3L/100km, down from 6.5L/100km.
Meanwhile, G25 variants continue on with a 139kW/252Nm Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
Both powertrain options are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, while service intervals for all variants now extend to 12 months or 15,000km (previously 10,000km).
The X20 M Hybrid is no longer offered.
Optional extras for Pure and Evolve grades include the $2000 Vision Technology Pack, while the same pack is available for Touring and GT SP grades for an extra $1800 and $1300 respectively.
Inclusions vary depending on grade, however, the Vision Technology Pack for the CX-30 G25 GT SP adds the aforementioned 10.25-inch infotainment unit, front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, driver monitoring and front cross traffic alert.
Sonic Silver has been removed from the paint list, but Ceramic Metallic and Zircon Sand Metallic – the latter adding $595 and also available on CX-5 and MX-5 – join the palette.
