2024 Mazda CX-70 and CX-80 make Aussie debut

Australia will be the only market to offer all four new-generation SUV models including CX-60 and CX-90

The upcoming 2024 Mazda CX-70 and 2024 Mazda CX-80 have made their Australian debuts alongside the established CX-60 and CX-90 at the National Gallery in Canberra ahead of their local releases later this year.

Local pricing and specification details for both new SUVs is yet to be announced, but the CX-70 is essentially a five-seat version of the CX-90 large SUV and the CX-80 is basically a seven-seat version of the CX-60 mid-size SUV, so you can expect them to be priced and positioned accordingly.

The National Gallery event was also the first time all four of Mazda’s Large Product Group models have been shown together, since Australia will be the only market to offer all four SUVs simultaneously.

“As we move into the next generation of our brand, these four trailblazers all play their own distinct role in sustaining our ambition to offer an unrivalled breadth of choice for our customers,” said Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi.

“Whether it’s the pursuit of life’s passions in the CX-70, the family focus of the CX-80, the lap of luxury in the CX-90 or the CX-60’s embodiment of Mazda Premium technology, our commitment to an all-hybrid model range also opens up a wealth of new opportunities for Mazda owners to fully enrich their life in motion.”

As per the existing CX-60 and CX-90, both the CX-70 and CX-80 will be powered by mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.3-litre straight-six petrol and diesel engines across the range, with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid system set to top each model line.

“More details on engine specifications, launch timings, pricing and equipment for the Mazda CX-70 and CX-80 will be confirmed at a later date,” said Mazda.

The CX-70 made its global debut in January and was apparently the model that took the longest for Mazda Australia to establish a business case for, whereas the CX-80 was revealed as the indirect replacement for the popular CX-9 in April.
