The all-new 2024 Mazda CX-70 luxury large SUV is now on sale in Australia with prices kicking off from $75,970plus on-road costs and topping out around $84,970.
Customer deliveries are before the end of the month and, unlike other Mazda models, it’s slim pickings in terms of variants with Mazda offering just two high-spec trims – the GT and Azami – both of which can be had with a turbo-petrol or turbo-diesel powertrains.
Based on the seven-seat CX-90, the new CX-70 forgoes a third row entirely to offer more room for passengers and a claimed 923 litres of boot space – growing to 2015 litres when the second row is folded flat.
As per the existing CX-60 and CX-90, drive comes from a mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.3-litre inline six-cylinder engine, powered by your choice of petrol (254kW/500Nm) or diesel (187kW/550Nm).
Whichever fuel type you choose, an eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four corners via Mazda’s rear-biased i-Activ AWD system.
Standard equipment for the GT grade includes 21-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, heated steering wheel, a 360-degree parking camera and head-up display.
Infotainment duties are handled by a 12.3-inch central touch-screen system offering wireless smartphone mirroring and playing through a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
The Azami adds ambient lighting, a frameless interior mirror, ventilated front seats, body-coloured wheel arches and lower cladding, and the choice of black or burgundy Nappa leather upholstery.
The flagship also gets a ‘see through’ view for the 360-degree camera, interior foot lighting as well as a customisable entry and driving position guide system.
A key new safety feature is the unresponsive driver support which forms part of the cruising and traffic support systems, something Mazda says will detect closed eyes or continued distraction and alert the driver in stages before slowing and eventually stopping the vehicle if no action is taken.
Mazda’s Connected Services also come as standard, including access to the MyMazda app.
Azami customers with some extra budget can opt for the $3500 SP package which adds tan Nappa leather seat trim, suede dashboard panelling and a two-tone steering wheel.
All CX-70s are covered by Mazda’s usual five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.
