The special-edition 2024 Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition has been priced at $413,561 plus on-road costs, with “a strictly limited number of vehicles … available to the Australian market”.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has not confirmed how many vehicles are included in this strict allocation, but with a global production run of just 1000 units, it won’t be too many.
First deliveries are expected in the final quarter of this year.
That opening figure is $50,000 higher than the standard G 63’s list price ($363,561 plus ORCs), with the extra coin bringing unique black and gold treatment (decals, badging and wheels), 22-inch forged centre-lock alloy wheels and a matching black and gold interior.
The cabin is upholstered with Nappa leather save for the carbon-fibre trim inserts, Dinamica microfibre AMG performance steering wheel and ‘Grand Edition’ plaques.
The black leather upholstery is contrasted by gold stitching, while the carbon-fibre trim includes copper thread.
A customised AMG indoor car cover also comes with the top-shelf 4x4 off-road wagon.
No changes have been made to the mechanical package, which means the G 63 remains powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 burbling out 430kW/850Nm and driving all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Later this year, the battery-electric Mercedes-Benz EQG will be revealed, launching alongside a facelifted G-Class that’s expected to retain its core platform and mechanicals but feature a new body inspired by the EQG.
“When you really go into the details of the car, we have changed things,” Dr Emerich Schiller, head of the G-Class business unit, told carsales last year.
“Most customers won’t see it, even if they stand in front of the car, but the change in some cases had a really dramatic improvement to the aerodynamics.”
