The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV (PHEV) range will soon have a new flagship in the form of the sporty-looking GSR, which arrives later this month priced from $73,790 plus on-road costs – $2000 upstream of the existing Exceed Tourer.
The extra outlay nets customers a heap of black exterior design touches, including front and rear skid plates, grille mouldings, door mirrors, belt lines, roof rails, fog lamp bezels, grille, bonnet lettering and 20-inch alloys, along with interior touches like a black headliner, contrasting silver trim stitching and a unique gear selector panel.
An exclusive Red Diamond with Black Mica roof paint option will also be offered to help accentuate the black design cues, however, the rest of the GSR’s standard equipment list is largely the same as the Exceed Tourer’s.
Highlights include third-row seating, leather upholstery, a Bose premium sound system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, heated seats, the full MiTEC safety suite, MI-PILOT driving assistant, seven drive modes and a panoramic sunroof.
No changes have been made to any of the Outlander PHEV’s mechanical or chassis components, meaning the 2.4-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid system still outputs a combined 185kW/450Nm and offers up to 84km of electric range.
All-wheel drive is standard on all electrified Outlanders, along with seven drive modes to help tailor the dual-motor PHEV system to the task and conditions at hand.
Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shaun Wescott said the GSR nameplate was an important one for the brand in this market and represents the pinnacle a model line.
“GSR means sportiness, style and sophistication for Mitsubishi, and the latest addition to the Outlander range certainly meets these criteria,” he said.
