2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport officially revealed

Mitsubishi’s facelifted Pajero Sport SUV coming soon to Australia, but new engine from Triton off-limits

The facelifted 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has debuted in Thailand, just days after the upgraded large off-road SUV was leaked online.

Due to launch Down Under in the coming months, local pricing and specs for the new Pajero Sport are yet to be announced, but mild price increases are expected across the board.

The earlier leaks mean there are no surprises in terms of the Pajero Sport’s updated design, however we do have more details of the broader updates, including the fitment of a new engine derived from the latest Mitsubishi Triton ute.

As rumoured, the new mill is a single-turbo version of the Triton’s (twin-turbo) 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel, outputting 135kW/430Nm and claimed to be lighter and cleaner than the current 133kW/430Nm unit of the same displacement found in the current Pajero Sport.

However, as previously reported by carsales, all Australian versions of the Pajero Sport will stick with older engine until the end of the SUV’s current lifecycle, with a changeover expected late next year or early 2026.

The eight-speed automatic transmission has also been swapped out for a more modern six-speed unit in Thailand.

Inside, you’ll find new graphics for the 8.0-inch infotainment screen, a new steering wheel (as found in Triton), a two-tone black-burgundy colour scheme and a 12.1-inch rear entertainment screen for the flagship Elite Edition (GSR).

This is the second facelift for the current Pajero Sport, with cosmetic changes including a new grille, skid plate, alloy wheel designs and more black trim for the top-spec offering.
