2024 Renault Kangoo E-Tech here in February

But only SWB version of new small electric van will be released initially; dearer LWB coming later

The new-generation 2024 Renault Kangoo E-Tech will be priced from $61,990 plus on-road costs when the all-new compact electric van arrives here in February.

Two versions are set to be offered Down Under and the opening figure applies to the entry-level short-wheelbase version, with the bigger long-wheelbase commercial van priced from $63,990 plus ORCs when it’s released later in 2024.

The two variants might wear different bodies but there’s no difference in their mechanical make-up – namely a single-motor battery-electric drivetrain based around a compact 45kWh lithium-ion battery pack capable of providing up to 285km of range from a single charge.

Said battery is stashed under the floor of the vehicle, where it’s said to have no impact whatsoever on the 3.3 and 4.2 cubic-metre cargo areas, and can be charged at up to 80kW when using a DC fast-charger – when optioned with the applicable hardware – which adds up to 170km of WLTP range in a claimed 27 minutes.

The motor meantime outputs 90kW/245Nm and can be tailored to the task at hand via two drive modes (Eco and Normal) and a three-mode regenerative braking system that offers the choice of ‘sailing’, ‘drive’ and ‘brake’, all of which do what they say on the tin.

Payload is rated at 523kg for the short-wheelbase and 668kg for the long-wheelbase, while both versions have a maximum braked towing capacity of 1500kg, sliding rear doors, rear barn doors and 16-inch wheels.

Compact delivery vans have never been renowned for their standard equipment levels but that doesn’t mean they have to lack practical creature comforts like a digital rear-view mirror, climate control, lane keep assist and rear parking sensors, all of which come standard in the Kangoo E-Tech.

Those wanting more toys in their new electric van will need to opt for the optional Tradie Pack, Peace of Mind Pack and/or Business Pack, which introduce a raft of extra equipment and safety technology – see below, along with the single options.

Standard paint finishes for the new Kangoo E-Tech will comprise Mineral White and Urban Grey, while the Diamond Black, Oyster Grey, Highland Grey and Carmin Red metallic hues command an $800 premium.
