The teaser campaign for the upcoming 2024 Skoda Elroq has continued overnight with more teaser images of the all-new dedicated-electric mid-size SUV ahead of its global reveal in spring, leaving very little to the imagination.
Destined to be an EV-only counterpart and eventual replacement for the existing Skoda Karoq, the Skoda Elroq is underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s widely-used MEB EV platform and will be offered from launch with four distinct powertrains named 50, 60, 85 and 85x.
Each powertrain has a progressively bigger battery pack and increasing power outputs from a predominantly single-motor set-up.
The 50, for instance, features a 55kWh battery and outputs 125kW, while the 60 has a 63kWh battery and 150kW motor and the 85 an 82kWh battery and 210kW motor, leaving the top-spec 85x as the outlier with an 82kWh battery and 220kW dual-motor powertrain.
Skoda hasn’t deep-dived into the respective WLTP ranges of every system just yet, but it has nominated 560km as the maximum figure for the most efficient version and previously confirmed there’ll be a hot RS performance flagship further down the line.
It’s a similar story with charging capability. Only the 82kWh battery has been detailed thus far and its key figures include 175kW of maximum DC fast-charging power (10-80% in 28 minutes) and 11kW of maximum AC power (0-100% in 5hr 30min).
We don’t have any concrete dimensions to work with yet, but Skoda says the Elroq has a drag coefficient of 0.26Cd and will swallow up to 470 litres of cargo behind the rear seats, expanding to 1580L when the second row is folded flat.
The Simply Clever brand claims there’s up to 48L of additional storage within the cabin, along with a new range of nifty features like a storage net for the charging cable under the adjustable parcel shelf, instructional QR codes for new owners and some additional boot compartments.
Equipment highlights across the range will include alloy wheels (19-21-inch), a 5.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13-inch infotainment interface, head-up display and ‘Recytitan’ door panel, seat, dashboard, centre armrest and knee pad upholstery.
LEDs take care of all the exterior lighting.
Headline safety equipment and driver aids, meantime, will include Travel Assist, Intelligent Park Assist with Remote Parking and Remote Trained Parking (automated parking), and nine airbags.
“Growing our electric portfolio into several attractive new segments is key to our strategy of providing our customers a wide choice of new models to choose from and to the continued success of Skoda Auto,” said company CEO Klaus Zellmer.
“The Elroq is a milestone in our BEV portfolio, the first in a coming line-up of six new fully electric models, following the success of the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe.”
While only the Enyaq Coupe will be sold in Australia from later this year, the Elroq’s global debut this spring will be followed by the pint-size Epiq light SUV, which we’ve already seen in concept form and is expected to launch in Europe in the first half of next year, priced from the equivalent of $41,000.
