2024 Skoda Kodiaq: First look inside SUV’s new cabin

Upmarket and high-tech interior revealed for new Skoda Kodiaq family SUV and Superb large car

The upmarket and high-tech new interior of the incoming next-generation 2024 Skoda Kodiaq family SUV has been revealed ahead of its Australian launch next year.

While most of the images relate to Kodiaq, they also herald the almost identical new layout for the 2024 Skoda Superb large sedan and wagon that is closely related to the SUV and is on a similar timetable for launch Down Under.

According to the Czech car-maker, the new Skoda Kodiaq and Superb both incorporate more advanced technology, better ergonomics, improved practicality as well as higher quality and more sustainable materials throughout.

Across they dash, they combine large digital displays with three old-school rotary dials to make the cabin as easy and intuitive to use as possible.

As well as simpler to use, space has been freed up by moving the gear selector to the steering wheel column for a cleaner look with more storage.

Other notable new additions for the Kodiaq and Superb include a head-up display and a fully digital 10-inch instrument cluster.

There’s also a large 13.0-inch central infotainment touch-screen, plus those rotary push buttons that integrate both haptic feedback and tiny 32mm digital displays.

The trio of ‘Smart Dials’ provide access to various functions, from controlling the cabin temp to adjusting the seat ventilation. Volume, fan speed, air direction, map zoom and driving modes are all available.

Pressing down on the centre dial allows the user to simply change each rotary controller’s function. Another option is configuring them through the infotainment screen.

Compared to the Superb, the Kodiaq’s dash has large double-stacked vertical air vents and a more prominent centre console.

The ambient LED light strip also flows over the central air vents on the SUV and below them on the sedan/wagon.

Both models get USB-C ports in the rear-view mirror for a dashcam and a 15W wireless smartphone charger. A further four USB-C ports are dotted around the cabin.

All fabrics are said to blend more sustainable materials, while one trim option uses only recycled polyester.

In case you were wondering, the front door still stores an umbrella.

Both cars are based on Volkswagen Group’s overhauled MQB evo platform that is primed to improve the way the Superb and Kodiaq will ride and drive, while introducing more sophisticated technology.

Under the bonnet, expect conventional petrol and diesel engines as well as mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, although the latter has been already ruled out for Australia.

Before the new-generation models turn up next year, a tech upgrade will be applied to the Kodiaq and other Skoda cars during the final quarter of 2023, but at this stage the Superb isn’t among them.
