2024 Skoda Kodiaq teased in the nude

Here is the world’s first in-the-metal look at the next-generation 2024 Skoda Kodiaq, albeit without an engine, interior, bumpers, wheels, fuel tank, suspension, windscreen or windows.

Yes, the Czech brand’s latest teaser is purely of the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq’s bare shell, but it was accompanied by a couple of key titbits of intel, like the availability of a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a global reveal for the all-new large SUV sometime between September and November this year.

While it’s a bit cryptic and not all that revealing compared to the myriad spy images we’ve seen previously, the teaser shows the next-generation Kodiaq will adopt a smoother and more rounded design aesthetic compared to it chiselled predecessor.

It’s hard to tell in the official images and clip Skoda released overnight, but the new Kodiaq is also anticipated to be bigger than the vehicle it will replace when series production commences early next year.

The new Kodiaq will be produced at Skoda’s Kvasiny plant on the same production line as the Karoq and current-generation Superb, however, production of the latter will move to Bratislava for its new generation early next year, thereby freeing up more space for the SUVs – specifically an extra 150,000 units per annum.

Skoda says it’s investing about €12 million ($A19.2m) to futureproof the Kvasiny facility and the new Kodiaq will be offered with two forms of electrified drivetrain – plug-in and mild-hybrid – as well as traditional petrol and diesel options.

Up to 410 vehicles are forecast to roll out of the facility every day, once the operation is in full swing.

“As is typical for Skoda, we are once again using existing infrastructure while cleverly integrating new technologies,” Skoda production and logistics chief Michael Oeljeklaus said.

“We have also successfully redistributed and optimised our model production and were thus able to free up additional capacity.”

With the global reveal still at least a few months away, there’s been no word as to when we’ll see the new Kodiaq in Australian showrooms, but the early 2024 production start points to local launch sometime in the second half of next year.
