2024 Skoda Superb teased one last time
Global reveal of the fourth-generation Superb will happen at 5:00am AEDTThe all-new 2024 Skoda Superb will make its global debut tonight after an exhaustive teaser campaign that’s revealed or previewed just about every facet of the new large sedan and wagon.
Not content with the work it’s already done, the Czech brand has elected to release one last teaser showcasing some of its new flagship passenger model's fresh interior and exterior highlights, including its crisp new front fascia and headlights, tech-heavy cabin and dash layouts, stalk-style gear selector and of course the four- and five-door body styles.
None of these features or changes come as a surprise given the elaborateness of the previous teasers, but the fourth-generation Superb will be quite an important car within the context of Australia because the closely related new VW Passat won't be sold here, leaving quite a sizeable gap in the local passenger car market.
The Passat and Superb were never pitched as direct rivals on account of the former being classed as a mid-size car and the latter a large car, and it’s that key difference which makes the new superb so import in Australia – it’s the last mainstream large passenger car left on the market following the retirement of the Kia Stinger.
Like the new-generation Passat, the new Superb will launch globally with a selection of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, but at this stage Australians will only be offered turbo-petrol engines, likely the 150kW and 195kW 2.0-litre versions.
The latter will score all-wheel drive, as per the current 206TSI Sportline flagship, while the former will retain the classic front-drive configuration.
Chances are the all-paw Superb wagon will follow on from its predecessor as the vehicle of choice for various police departments around the country including Western Australia, where the Sportline is used as marked and unmarked patrol cars alongside the Kia Sorento.
The reveal of the new Superb will be livestreamed via Skoda’s various social media channels at 7:00pm tonight in Europe (5:00am AEDT).
