The 2024 SsangYong Rexton seven-seat large SUV is about to enter Aussie showrooms armed with a redesigned interior and new Adventure mid-series model grade.
The updates are accompanied by marginal price increases on the carryover models, starting with the base ELX at $50,000 drive-away (+$1010) and topping out at $58,000 drive-away for the Ultimate (+$1415).
The new SsangYong Rexton Adventure slots in between at $54,000 drive-away, although it isn’t any more capable or off-road-ready than its peers despite the suggestive nameplate.
All 2024 SsangYong Rexton models, as per the related SsangYong Musso ute, will come with a heavily redesigned dashboard headlined by a new 12.3-inch infotainment system which sits above a new climate control panel and integrated air vents.
The rest of the standard equipment is largely a case of ‘as you were’ beyond the new widescreen interface, with headline gear on the ELX comprising 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, smartphone mirroring, dual-zone climate control, leather-clad steering wheel, full LED exterior lighting, a reversing camera and parking sensors all-round.
Stepping up to the new Adventure grade adds a power tailgate, leather-look front seats with power adjustment and heating/cooling, a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, tyre pressure monitoring, speed-sensitive steering, walk-up welcome system, keyless entry and walk-away door locking.
The Ultimate adds a powered sunroof, premium quilted leather seats, 360-degree camera, third-row air-conditioning controls, ambient interior lighting, illuminated front door scuff plates and privacy glass.
A $2000 Sport Pack is also available, throwing in ‘Shadow Chrome’ grille, tailgate and rear bumper garnishes, Shadow Chrome fog light surrounds and 20-inch alloys as well as black roof rails similar to the previous Black Edition.
No changes have been made to the Rexton’s 148kW/441Nm 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine or eight-speed automatic transmission, however new body mounts have been installed in the name of improving noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels.
As before, drive is sent through a part-time four-wheel drive system with low-range. A self-locking rear differential is standard.
Headline safety gear continues to comprise autonomous emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane change collision warning, safety distance alert, smart high beam, front vehicle start warning, driver attention warning, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and safety exit warning.
Buyers will struggle to pick the new Rexton from the current model, with the only exterior giveaway being its new ‘Graphite’ body colour which joins the existing crop of Grand White, Pearl White, Atlantic Blue, Marble Grey and Space Black.
