2024 Subaru BRZ adds tS flagship, safety tech for manuals

Order book opens for Subaru’s upgraded, and more expensive, BRZ sports car range due in January

The order book for the upgraded 2024 Subaru BRZ range has opened ahead of the first examples arriving in Australia next month, with the updated sports car now featuring more variants and extra standard equipment – albeit at a cost.

Headline additions include the flagship tS model and the Subaru EyeSight safety suite for manual variants.

The latter includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, a pre-collision braking system, pre-collision brake assist and brake light recognition.

The new technology has added to the BRZ’s asking price, with the range now opening from $43,790 plus on-road costs for the entry-level manual – an increase of $3500.

The same mark-up has been applied to the better-equipped S manual (from $45,090), whereas the automatics have copped a $700 increase without any meaningful equipment or spec upgrades.

That, in turn, reduces the margin between two- and three-pedal variants to just $1000 across the range.

At the top of the range now sits the 2024 Subaru BRZ tS, priced from $48,690 for the manual and $49,690 for the automatic.

The extra outlay over the now S scores customers an STI-enhanced suspension set-up (damper and springs), a beefier Brembo braking package finished with gold callipers, unique 18-inch alloys and a series of other subtle styling enhancements.

Other standard equipment highlights on the tS include Ultrasuede and leather upholstery with embossed STI logos, a red STI starter button, STI-spec instrument cluster, keyless entry and an 8.0-inch colour touch-screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, digital radio and satellite navigation.

No changes have been made to the naturally-aspirated 2.4-litre flat four-cylinder petrol engine lurking under the bonnet, which still buzzes out 174kW/250Nm and drives the rear wheels via six-speed manual or automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Subaru Australia says the arrival of the tS is an exciting milestone for the second-generation BRZ, describing it as “the best performing and handling BRZ ever”.

The BRZ tS will be available in all existing BRZ exterior colours – Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Ignition Red, WR Blue Pearl, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Magnetite Grey Metallic and Crystal Black Silica – and is covered under the same five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty as the standard versions.
