Subaru Japan has given us an early glimpse of how the 2025 Subaru BRZ will be updated, confirming the compact rear-drive coupe will get enhanced handling, better steering and a Sport mode for the manual version.
The new upgrades are aimed at improving the way the popular sports car drives and they follow the updated 2024 Subaru BRZ announced late last year, which added a new tS flagship and the Japanese car-maker’s EyeSight driver assistance technology suite to the manual version for the first time.
Mirroring the updates recently announced for the 2025 Toyota GR 86, the MY25 BRZ will receive new dampers and tweaked power steering that, together, are claimed to improve ride quality and sharpen response.
Another useful addition for the updated BRZ will be a new Sport mode, activated via a button on the centre console, which sharpens up throttle response and dials up the volume of the Active Sound Control system inside the cabin.
The two-pedal automatic version, meanwhile, will allow manual downshifts at higher revs to provide its driver with more control.
There are no changes under the bonnet, where the BRZ’s 2.4-litre flat-four continues to produce 174kW/250Nm.
That means the manual version takes the same 6.6 seconds to hit 100km/h and still tops out at 226km/h (claimed).
The only variant that won’t score the chassis tweaks is the Japanese-market STI Sport flagship, which already runs its own STI-tuned damper set-up.
There’s no word yet on when the overhauled Subaru BRZ will land Down Under, but it’s likely to arrive here by the end of this year, as per the MY25 Toyota GR 86 that’s produced in the same Japanese factory.
The Subaru BRZ was Australia’s best-selling sports car in the first half of 2024, with 566 sales outnumbering the GR 86 (299 sales) and other enthusiast favourites like the Ford Mustang and Mazda MX.5.
