Toyota Australia has announced the pricing for the heavily updated 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series, with the overhauled workhorse and off-roader set to start from $75,600 plus on-road costs.
But while that new entry price applies to the first automatic four-cylinder turbo-diesel powered version of the 70 Series, first deliveries of which will take place from November, the facelifted V8 variants will be even more expensive and remain unavailable to order while Toyota Australia continues to clear its long back-order list.
Despite the new four-banger being significantly gutsier than the carryover 4.5-litre V8 turbo-diesel with five-speed manual (150kW/500Nm versus 151kW/430Nm) and paired to a six-speed automatic, the downsized powertrain is several grand cheaper than its bigger counterpart across all variants.
The exact figure is $4100, but there is an outlier in the form of the base 76 Series Wagon WorkMate, which will only be offered with the HiLux-sourced 1GD-FTV mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine.
The new powertrain and entry-level variant blow the 2024 LandCruiser 70 Series line-up out to 17 variants in total, with a raft of new convenience and safety features simultaneously driving up prices across the range, culminating in a $4600 jump in entry price.
Toyota says it’s fitted the new powerplant and transmission with a series of upgrades to enhance their cooling and reliability in high-load situations, specifically a bigger cooling fan, isolation crank pulley redesigned oil pan, strainer and oil level sensor, reoriented oil filter and a balance shaft.
Inside the cabin, customers will find a new 6.7-inch infotainment system with voice recognition and smartphone mirroring, a 4.2-inch driver’s display, retro-inspired speedo, multi-function steering wheel and redesigned centre console.
GXL variants score two new USB-C ports in place of the old 12V socket, while the 76 Series gains a reversing camera for easier parking.
Standard safety gear now includes downhill assist control, road sign assist and lane departure alert, in addition to the pre-existing autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system.
