2024 Toyota Yaris Cross safety and tech upgrade
Toyota’s smallest SUV receives important updates, but prices rise by almost $1000The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross has received a major technology and safety update.
All versions of the small SUV pick up Toyota’s latest-generation 8.0-inch multimedia system, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an expanded array of Toyota Safety Sense driver assist tech that benefits from new cameras and sensors with wider fields of view and detection zones.
This includes motorcycle and oncoming vehicle detection for the autonomous emergency braking (AEB), as well as enhanced intersection collision avoidance (day), emergency steering (day), active cruise control and lane trace assist systems.
All model grades other than the base GX also score a new parking support brake with front and rear parking sensors and safe exit assist.
The new infotainment system features a bigger and crisper display, cloud-based and embedded satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity, DAB+ digital radio and a USB-C audio jack.
Every 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross variant comes with a configurable 7.0-inch virtual cockpit offering nine display patterns across three distinct themes: Casual, Smart and Sporty.
Other equipment enhancements include illuminated vanity mirrors, two rear grab handles and a soft arm rest for the centre console on GX models, while GXL variants add rear side and rear privacy glass.
There’s also a new seat trim pattern for all models other than the GR Sport, while exterior revisions extend to a new grille, large rear side spoiler and, for the top-spec Urban, fresh wheel designs.
Tweaks have also been made to the colour palette that now comprises Frosted White, Stunning Silver, Ink, Atomic Rush, Latte, Mineral Blue and Massive Grey – four of which can be specified with a black roof (Urban models only).
The upgrades have brought higher prices for Toyota’s smallest SUV, which now starts from $30,900 plus on-road costs for the GX FWD (+$900) and tops out at $39,880 for the flagship Urban AWD (+$880). See the full price list below.
No mechanical changes have been made, leaving the 1.3-litre three-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid as the sole powertrain – with the choice of a front-drive or AWD layout.
