The new-generation 2025 Audi Q5 Sportback range will comprise five variants from launch and start from $84,500 plus on-road costs, making it $3500 more expensive than the equivalent SUV.
Two months on from the release of the new-generation Audi Q5, the sexier Sportback range has arrived mirroring the SUV line-up.
The range therefore opens with the front-drive, turbo-petrol (150kW/340Nm) Q5 TFSI and the all-paw, turbo-diesel (150kW/400Nm) Q5 TDI Quattro which, beyond the powertrains, share a common equipment list.
Highlights include the S Line exterior treatment, 19-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights, a 14.5-inch panoramic MMI display, an 11.9-inch digital cockpit, leather upholstery, 360-degree camera, heated front seats, digital key, gesture-controlled electric tailgate and tri-zone climate control.
The TDI Quattro Sport ($97,600) ups the ante with 20-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, sport front seats, S Line interior package (contrast stitching, S embossing, stainless pedals, flat-bottom sport steering wheel) and a black headliner.
Above that is the SQ5 Edition One ($109,900) which blends the athletic bones of the regular SQ5 (read on) with a slightly shorter equipment list and a unique aesthetic: black 20-inch Audi Sport alloys, red brake callipers, privacy glass and a black exterior styling package with anthracite Audi rings.
Powering both SQ5 variants is a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine good for 270kW/550Nm and 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds thanks in part to the S-spec quattro all-wheel-drive system and Audi Sport suspension.
Standard kit on the regular version ($125,900) includes metallic paint, 21-inch Audi Sport alloys, aluminium-look exterior styling, acoustic glazing, diamond-stitched leather upholstery, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a head-up display, colour ambient lighting and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system – plus everything else mentioned above.
Every Q5 utilises a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and what Audi calls ‘MHEV Plus’ which is essentially a 48V mild hybrid system on steroids – it allows for some meaningful (low speed) electric propulsion but isn’t a full hybrid system.
Audi Australia says both the new Q5 and the Q5 Sportback are “arriving soon to Australian showrooms” and that the SQ5 Edition Ones will only be “available for a limited time”.
