BMW has confirmed the next-generation iX3 as the first ‘Neue Klasse’ model to enter series production, and that the first customer cars will be ready by the end of the year.
Long shown and referred to in concept form as the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X, the all-new premium electric SUV will make its global debut in September as the first of “more than 40 models of all drivetrain variants” to be released globally between now and 2027, and the first of six dedicated Neue Klasse models.
Details of the new model are still irritatingly thin on the ground beyond BMW’s promises of an 800V architecture and greatly improved efficiency, however it’s becoming increasingly apparent the 2025 BMW iX3 will become the flagbearer for not only the brand’s next-gen platform, but other technologies as well.
“With the series launch of the BMW iX3, the new technology clusters will also be integrated throughout the entire BMW product line-up based on the established modularity principle,” BMW said in a statement.
“This means that all future BMW models will benefit from the innovations of the Neue Klasse – as well as from the new design language.”
Following in the wheeltracks of the new iX3 will be the long-awaited BMW 3 Series EV – likely known as the BMW i3 – in 2026 and inevitably the ballistic electric M3 (iM3?) which has been the subject of plenty of discussion, debate and speculation in recent months.
Spy pics snapped last year have already proven the Neue Klasse design language is making the rounds and going to become the Bavarian norm seeing as the next-generation X5 was spotted wearing such a body, even though it may not inherit the modular platform.
The 5 Series/i5 and corresponding M5 are also rumoured to be getting an early facelift in line with the new design motif which draws inspiration from the models of yesteryear.
“With the Neue Klasse, we are implementing the biggest future-focused project in the history of our company, while at the same time achieving a robust free cash flow,” BMW AG board of management chairman Oliver Zipse said.
“No other manufacturer has a project as ambitious and ground-breaking as ours about to enter production.”
The 2025 BMW iX3 will be produced at Plant Debrecen in Hungary and is expected to arrive Down Under in the first half of 2026.
