BMW Australia will expand its new-generation X3 line-up late next quarter with the addition of the diesel-powered 40d xDrive which will start from $108,900 plus on-road costs.
Slotting into the range beneath the flagship M50 xDrive, the 2025 BMW X3 40d xDrive is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engine outputting a mighty 210kW/670Nm, good for 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
Drive is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission while the engine is supported by a 48V mild hybrid system – as per most modern BMWs – though local fuel consumption and CO2 emissions data is yet to be confirmed.
Its equipment list reads almost identically to the lesser 30e xDrive and is thereby headlined by the M Sport, 20-inch M light alloys, tri-zone climate control, a six-speaker sound system, adaptive LED headlights and suspension, BMW Live Cockpit Pro, comfort access, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, a head-up display, fixed panoramic glass sunroof and wireless smartphone projection – to name just a few.
The 40d xDrive’s arrival will expand the local X3 portfolio’s variant count to four and mean the range will offer the choice of turbo-petrol, turbo-diesel and plug-in hybrid power, fulfilling BMW’s promise to offer consumers plenty of choice.
A new X3 M will materialise eventually, but not until the ‘neue klasse’ iX3 debuts later this year and arrived sometime in 2026.
