The inbound 2025 BYD Seal sedan is set to come with subtle exterior tweaks and a big cabin refresh when it's launched on August 8.
Set to share almost identical looks externally to the current BYD Seal mid-size sedan, the battery-electric Tesla Model 3 rival gets new seats with a wave pattern printed on them, a new Coral Orange color scheme, and hidden air vents.
Ahead of the passenger is a wave-like graphic on the dash, another reference the Seal is part of BYD's Ocean family of vehicles.
Other changes include a new D-shaped steering wheel, a floating central control screen, a revised digital instrument cluster, new wireless charging panels, cup holders and the introduction of some new physical buttons to improve ease of use and ergonomics.
Reports out of China suggest the BYD Seal will switch to an 800-volt electric architecture (up from the current 400-volts) that will enable fast charging of between 270kW-350kW.
Other changes include an increased driving range.
In China, there will also be the option of new LiDAR sensors that will provide for eyes-off, Level 3 fully autonomous driving capability in certain geofenced areas.
The new driverless tech is unlikely to be offered in Australia or Europe, however.
The BYD Seal remains Australia's third best-selling EV with 4662 deliveries in the first half of 2024. The Tesla Model 3, which is the BYD Seal’s main rival, sold 13,539 units over the same period while the Tesla Model Y managed 12,169 sales.
