2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 N is Porsche fast

German-hunting Korean super sedan debuts ahead of local release next year

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 N has made its eagerly anticipated global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as the quickest Hyundai Motor Group product to date, stopping the clock from 0-100km/h in a Porsche Taycan-scaring 3.2 seconds.

Due to arrive Down Under in the first half of 2026 with the same 478kW/770Nm dual-motor powertrain as the IONIQ 5 N crossover, the IONIQ 6 N ups the performance ante with revised electronics (N Launch Control, N Drift Optimiser, N Torque Distribution, N e-shift, N Active Sound+, N Battery etc.), a shorter wheelbase, lower centre of gravity, slipperier shape and optimised chassis.

The whole package measures 4935mm long, 1940mm wide,1495mm tall, sits on a 2965mm wheelbase and is defined by its exclusive front and rear aprons, 20-inch five-spoke wheels, swanneck rear wing, lowered suspension, orange exterior trim and vast brakes.

Inside the cabin you’ll find an almost entirely black colourway with drivers greeted by an N-specific steering wheel, N bucket seats, leather and Alcantara upholstery, dual 12.3-inch displays with N-specific graphics, an in-car camera mount and blue-trimmed seatbelts.

Hidden under the floor is the same 84kWh battery pack found in the IONIQ 5 N, however, the track-ready pre-conditioning system has been revised for faster and more accurate temperature optimisation.

Hyundai is yet to announce an official cruising range for the IONIQ 6 N but has nominated a drag coefficient of 0.23, a top speed of 257km/h and a 10-80 per cent DC fast-charge time of just 18 minutes (at 350kW in optimal conditions).

The 6 N also one-ups the 5 with a new stroke-sensitive adapting damping system – in addition to a completely different suspension geometry – which engineers claim to offer an even wider breadth of capabilities both on road and track.

Also new is the N Track Manager system (for performance analysis on the fly), N Ambient Shift Light and an overhauled N e-Shift virtual transmission that now works in tandem with the launch control, N Grin Boost, variable torque split and drift optimiser.

The N Active Sound+ suite has additionally been updated with IONIQ 6 N-specific tones for the familiar Ignition, Evolution and Lightspeed modes.

Counteracting the ballistic powertrain are four-piston front and single-piston rear brake calipers acting on 400mm and 360mm rotors respectively, while bespoke 275/35R20 Pirelli P Zero tyres encompass the lightweight 20-inch wheels.

Local pricing and finer specification details (including the cruising range) will be announced closer to the IONIQ 6 N’s arrival in the first half of next year as a warm-up act for the local introduction of the Genesis GV60 Magma.

With the standard IONIQ 6 variants typically costing more than the equivalent IONIQ 5, it would make sense for the same to be true of the N – the current IONIQ 5 N starts from $110,383 plus on-roads.
