2025 Isuzu MU-X debuts in Thailand

Aggro new RS trim headlines the refreshed off-road SUV line-up due here in early 2025

The facelifted 2025 Isuzu MU-X has been revealed in Thailand and it comes armed with new front- and rear-end designs, a revised interior, upgraded in-car tech and enhanced safety features, alongside a carryover engine line-up.

Expected to arrive Down Under in the first quarter of next year, the upgraded Isuzu MU-X looks far more aggressive than its predecessor thanks to its reshaped grille, aggressive new front bumper, frowning headlight clusters and matching tail-lights.

The new RS trim goes a step further with black alloy wheels, black wheel-arch extensions, a black roof, black wing mirror caps and unique grille mesh.

The RS can be seen as the SUV equivalent of the D-MAX X-Terrain, which dons a heap of cosmetic enhancements to make it looks tougher and sportier than its lesser stablemates – think Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GSR and Ford Everest Wildtrak.

Whether or not this new trim will come to Australia remains to be seen, but there’s little doubt the rest of the facelifted range will also toughen up the MU-X’s image when the new model arrives here.

The new look is complemented by a reworked interior headlined by new seats, a new 9.0-inch touch-screen infotainment system featuring physical volume and tuning knobs, plus haptic controls in place of the old button arrangement and an all-new instrument cluster housing a 7.0-inch information display.

The RS adds green stitching to the ensemble, just as the X-Terrain adds red highlights as Isuzu’s flagship ute.

Leading the charge for the MU-X’s new driver-assist systems are a 360-degree camera for certain model grades, while reverse automatic emergency braking has been added across the board, working in tandem with the existing rear-cross traffic alert system.

The latest version of Rough Terrain Mode, which debuted in the MU-X and was upgraded for the MY24 D-MAX, has also been added to all 4x4 variants, with high-end grades also nabbing an underbody view via the surround-view camera to help improve off-road visibility.

No changes have been made to either of the MU-X’s two four-cylinder turbo-diesel powertrains, which continue to include the 110kW/350Nm 1.9-litre and the 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre, and nor have there been any changes to their respective 3000 and 3500kg braked towing capacities.

All versions retain the familiar six-speed Aisin six-speed automatic transmission.

Odds are the facelift will bring subtle price increases to the MU-X range to account for the extra tech, even though the existing range went up in price earlier this year for the first time since April 2022.

The current MU-X range opens from $47,400 plus on-road costs and tops out at $67,990 drive-away.
