2025 Isuzu MU-X price and spec announced

New X-Terrain flagship tops updated and more expensive line-up

A distinctive new X-Terrain flagship now sits atop the 2025 Isuzu MU-X line-up following the second-generation 4x4 wagon’s mid-life facelift.

Beyond the previously seen exterior design changes, the new model also adopts the facelifted D-Max’s infotainment and safety upgrades that were introduced last year as well as suspension and 4x4 system retunes.

Available to order from March 1, the updated MU-X brings price increases of $1000-$2000 depending on the variant but still manages to undercut key rivals like the Ford Everest and new Toyota Prado.

A full pricing breakdown can be found at the bottom of this article, by the 2025 line-up opens from $46,990 drive-away and tops out at $73,990 drive-away for the new X-Terrain flagship.

The X-Terrain badge, which already features at the top-end of the replated D-Max range, effectively replaces the limited-edition Tour Mate which retailed for the same asking price.

While the exterior and dash designs may have changed, the MU-X’s technical basics remain the same in 2025 and continues to be offered with a choice of a 110kW/350Nm 1.9-litre engine or the familiar 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel mill.

The same Asin six-speed automatic transmission has been carried over and there’ still the option of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains at certain trim levels.

All models also continue to have seven seats standard while the previous 3000kg and 3500kg braked towing capacities remain.

Only offered as a 3.0-litre 4x4, the X-Terrain is noticeable for deviating away from the standardised look of the LS-M, LS-U and LS-T variants, with the latest version of the traditional Isuzu horizontal two-bar grille presented in gloss black, along with the fenders, foglight surrounds and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The predominantly dark interior’s unique features include red stitching, plastic trims and ambient lighting.

Essentially a dressed-up LS-T, the X-Terrain is a cut-price competitor for the likes of the Everest Platinum ($81,200 plus on-road costs) and based on the popularity of the D-Max X-Terrain, Isuzu Ute Australia (IUA) expects it to be among the best-selling versions in the range.

“For close to half a decade, the X-Terrain name has built a reputation for itself as part of the D-Max range as a variant synonymous with adventure, capability, and high-specification,” managing director Junta Matsui told carsales.

“The introduction of the MU-X X-Terrain capitalises on the equity that ‘X-Terrain’ has earnt itself within the one-tonne ute market, with consumers automatically recognising the X-Terrain as the flagship of the range.”

A record 17,972 MU-Xs were sold in Australia in 2024, placing second in the VFacts large SUV segment behind the Ford Everest and making a massive contributing IUA’s 48,172 sales last year – a new brand record.

But IUA is being cautious about its 2025 sales prospects as back orders have been filled and the new Toyota Prado consumes a lot of segment interest, not to mention the biting cost of living pressures.

“Prado was not in the market for a period of time in 2024 and we are very mindful of that,” said Ben Jaeger, IUA’s sales and network development executive general manager.

“But we have definitely consolidated ourselves as a top three competitor in this market segment.”

So what exactly has changed for 2025?

Infotainment updates include a swap to an 8.0-inch (up from 7.0-inch) media touchscreen for the LS-M and a 9.0-inch screen (same size as before) with more features for the rest of the range.

Android Auto now joins Apple CarPlay in being connectable by wireless as well as cable.

Off-road information has also been introduced into the system, while a pair of physical tuning and volume dials have been added to the fascia.

The LS-M also gets a carry-over 4.2-inch digital driver display with revised graphics, while the other models get a new 7.0-inch display. As before, only the LS-M misses out on embedded satellite-navigation.

New safety features include a faster and more accurate ‘Gen4’ stereo camera with a 200 per cent field of view increase and 25 increase in range to support driver assists system like the autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

The latter now includes an intelligent function to read traffic signs and notify vehicle speed adjustment to the driver. The speed can be reset by pressing the cruise control resume button.

Other new safety features include rear cross traffic brake, traffic jam assist, welcome headlights, a digital reversing camera across the range and a 360-degree surround view camera for LS-T and X-Terrain.

Isuzu says it’s been working on a shock absorber retune for the MU-X for around 18 months including validation on Australian roads. With 6.6 per cent larger piston diameter (30 to 32mm) and revised valving, the new units are claimed to provide a more settled and controlled ride at higher road speeds above 60km/h, especially with loads onboard or towing.

The MU-X’s off-road traction control system, dubbed Rough Terrain Mode by Isuzu, now remains operational on the front wheels in low range when the rear differential is locked. Previously front axle wheelspin was uncontrolled when the rear diff was engaged.

Isuzu’s also upgraded the tyre pressure monitoring system to also display temperature. With reinflating after off-road driving in mind, it signals when standard placard tyre pressure has been reached.

While the X-Terrain occupies much of the design update focus, all models get the same fundamental front fascia and grille opening with Isuzu’s traditional ‘Hexa Pod’ and new aeronautical themes.

Updated bi-LED headlights with a new design signature, wider tail-lights – now full LED – linked by a trim piece, redesigned rear bumper and new alloy wheels for all but the LS-M are also included.

The new bonnet pressing includes full-length creases while the tailgate gets a spoiler integrated below the glass.

The LS-Ms and LS-Us have an updated cloth seat trim, while the LS-T and X-Terrain upgrade to perforated leather. All four trim levels get an updated steering wheel – only the LS-M misses out on leather trim.

Chrome has been reduced in the cabin and replaced by more matte trims to reduce reflections.

While purchase prices have risen, Isuzu has held the line on its flat price servicing at $469 for each of the first five visits to the dealer. Service intervals remain steady at 12 months/15,000km and the familiar six-year/150,000km warranty remains.

Across the range there are eight paint colours to choose. White is the no cost option, while premium paints add $695 for all models bar X-Terrain.

The flagship includes four NCO premium paint options including exclusive slate grey.
