2025 Kia Sorento PHEV: Full Australian details

Delayed GT-Line PHEV lands later this month to join the rest of the refreshed Sorento line-up as flagship three-row large SUV

The updated 2025 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid will land in Australian showrooms later this month priced from $84,660 plus on-roads for the flagship GT-Line PHEV – $3580 more than the pre-facelifted large electrified SUV it replaces.

Arriving nine-months after the facelifted petrol and diesel Kia Sorento and four months after the upgraded plug-less hybrid version, the plug-in Kia Sorento commands a hefty $16,070 over the popular diesel AWD variant.

However, that works out roughly the same as the price premium Mitsubishi charges for its Outlander PHEV models.

Like the rest of the Kia Sorento range, the new plug-in version adopts a smart chiselled look that includes a pair of new T-shaped LED daytime-running lights and a new grille, while at the rear there's now connected taillamps plus a fresh new lower bumper.

Within, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system replaces the old car's 10.25-inch screen, the new touchscreen running Kia and Hyundai's latest 'ccNC' software that allows for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Since the plug-in hybrid only comes in the top-rung GT-Line flavour – no vanilla yet – a second 12.3-inch digital instrument panel is also housed behind a same piece of glass giving the appearance of a single ultra-wide display.

Other new additions in the cabin include a revised shift-by-wire gear selector and new USB-C charging ports. The Kia Connect telematics system has also been added, allowing improved remote car controls via smartphone.

When it comes to the plug-in hybrid powertrain itself, Kia says the old car's set-up carries over unchanged.

That means the Kia Sorento GT-Line Plug-in Hybrid retains its turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is blended with a six-speed automatic, modest 13.8kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor.

In total, the Sorento PHEV produces a punchy 195kW and 350Nm of torque and combines that with a WLTP-rated 57km EV-only range and an ultra-low claimed fuel efficiency of just 1.6L/100km.
