2025 Kia Syros off the Australian menu

Kia India has pulled the covers off an all-new light SUV developed specifically for the sub-continent.

Dubbed the 2025 Kia Syros, the compact runabout bears a loose resemblance to the Hyundai Casper and associated Inster EV but will only be produced in India, despite being underpinned by the same K1 platform.

Kia Australia product planning boss Roland Rivero confirmed to carsales the Syros has not been developed for our market and therefore won’t be offered here.

Hiding under the bonnet is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol triple (88kW/172Nm) or a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine good for 85kW/250Nm, each driving the front wheels via the choice of a manual and automatic transmission.

An electric version is also understood to be in the works and due for release at a later date.

Inside the cabin you’ll find Kia’s now signature tri-screen cockpit arrangement comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5.0-inch climate control interface and a 12.3-inch infotainment system offering wireless smartphone mirroring, Kia Connect and sat-nav, playing through an eight-speaker Bose sound system.

Other equipment highlights include 17-inch alloy wheels, ventilated front and rear seats, a sliding second row, LED exterior lighting, leatherette upholstery, 64-colour mood lighting, alloy pedals, wireless charging pad, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable driver’s seat and over-the-air (OTA) updates to name a few.

The whole package sits on a 2550mm wheelbase and is protected by 16 autonomous safety features amounting to a Level 2 ADAS suite.
