The 2025 Kia Tasman has certainly made a splash in recent weeks with its global reveal and unorthodox design, however salvation could be on the way if Kia was to commit to producing an SUV version.
And just such a vehicle has been imagined – multiple times over – in the fall-out from the Tasman’s unveiling, showcasing what could ultimately become the new king of the ute-based SUV segment.
The rendered Everest-conqueror is still definitively a Tasman but sits on a shortened wheelbase with a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport-esque window line and extended roof rails running the entire length of the roof.
One key improvement made on this particular render is the deletion of the pick-up’s hideous black eyebrows/wheelarches, a touch that makes the overall ensemble far less polarising and dare we say it, almost cool.
There’s still plenty of black cladding: bumpers, side skirts and tailgate, but the fit-out is complemented nicely by the black side steps, alloys, roof rails, mirrors, head- and tail-light surrounds and exterior badging.
No doubt the interior is pretty well identical to the Tasman ute’s as per most players in this segment, with the same true of the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel powertrain which would offer full-time 4x4.
Kia Australia executives have spoken previously about the prospects of a Tasman-based Prado rival and reiterated at the global reveal just such a car is high on their wish list, though there’s no projected timeline as to when this might eventuate.
The 2025 Kia Tasman pick-up will enter local showrooms in the second quarter (April-June) of next year as one of the most eagerly anticipated models in its segment alongside the recently released BYD Shark 6.
