2025 Lexus RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid here in April

Delayed PHEV large SUV is finally headed Down Under, but not as the flagship

Lexus Australia has bolstered its 2025 line-up with the addition of the new RX 450h+ large SUV, the first examples of which will arrive in April priced from $123,500 plus on-road costs.

Pitched as the penultimate variant of the local RX portfolio, the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ Sports Luxury marks the first time a plug-in hybrid powertrain has been offered on Lexus’ flagship soft-roader, building on the immense global success of the smaller NX 450h+.

Under the bonnet you’ll find a 2.5-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid system sporting a pair of electric motors – one in the CVT, one on the rear axle – good for a combined 227kW and a resulting 0-100km/h claim of 6.5 seconds.

An 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery sustains the two motors and provides an electric range of up to 68km (WLTP) while the combined fuel consumption is pegged at 1.3L/100km against the ADR test cycle.

Inside the cabin you’ll find semi-aniline leather F Sport seats, a sliding panoramic roof, digital rearview mirror, intelligent parking assist, aluminium trim and pedals, a heated F Sport steering wheel, shifter and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, power-adjustable and memory front seats with heating and cooling.

Connectivity highlights meantime include a 14-inch infotainment system, voice command, sat-nav, wireless smartphone mirroring, DAB+ digital radio, five USB-C ports and Lexus Connected Services.

The whole package rides on 21-inch alloy wheels and adaptive dampers as standard while three-projector Bi-LED headlamps with BladeScan technology illuminate the path ahead.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are a key step in the customer journey from standalone internal combustion engines to full-electric mobility,” Lexus Australia CEO John Pappas said.

“For many Lexus customers, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are the right powertrain for the moment, offering the best of both worlds as we continue to develop infrastructure to support a greater uptake of battery electric vehicles.”
