MG Motor Australia has bolstered the value of its ZS compact SUV by axing the base 1.5-litre petrol engine from the entry-level Vibe in favour of the Essence’s more muscular turbo-petrol unit.
The turbo and non-turbo versions can be distinguished primarily by their differing wheels: 17-inch five-spoke alloys for the former and 16-inch multis for the latter.
A peak inside the cabin will also reveal the Turbo to have an electronic gear selector and climate control rather than the corresponding traditional controls.

Despite the Turbo’s extra kit and significantly greater punch, the two Vibes share an identical $25,888 drive-away asking price according to MG’s configurator.
Improvements have also been made to the ZS Hybrids in preparation for the 2026 model year, specifically “updated software delivering greater power, stronger performance over 4000rpm, smoother take-off and quieter cruising for real-world gains”.
“Drivers will enjoy more control in town, smooth performance on the highway, and extra punch with innovative two-speed transition technology allowing high-speed efficiency,” MG claimed.
Exactly how much extra power or what those real-world gains equate to in fuel economy haven’t been announced, so we dare say they’re rather minor and more aimed at refinement than outright performance.
All MG models are covered by a 10-year/250,000km – whichever comes first – factory warranty.
