2025 Smart #5 Brabus shocks with epic power

Flagship high-performance mid-size SUV gets Brabus treatment that sees power ramped up to 475kW.

The new 2025 Smart #5 Brabus has been unleashed ahead of its public outing at the Shanghai motor show next month, revealing a super-quick SUV with hot hatch humiliating performance.

On sale later this month in Europe priced from €60,900 ($A111,312), the new Smart #5 Brabus sees the brand once again team up with the famous German tuner it has worked with for more than two decades.

Standing out from the regular Smart #5, the Brabus version sports a new front splitter, larger 21-inch alloy wheels, the option of a matte paint finish, bright red brake calipers, plus plenty of Brabus badging.

Inside, there's an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, heated front and rear seats and large dual 13-inch OLED screens.

There's also a large panoramic roof, a microfiber roof lining, more Brabus badging within and an ambient lighting system with the choice of 256 colours.

Another highlight of the cabin is a powerful 2000-watt Sennheiser premium sound system that uses no less than 20 speakers for the full surround sound experience.

Driving all four wheels is a dual-motor powertrain that produces a mighty 475kW.

Against the clock, that means the Tesla Model Y Performance rival can launch from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds, using its Launch Mode.

As well as quicker off the line, the new Brabus comes with super-fast charging. Featuring an 800-volt electrical architecture, the 100kWh battery can be topped up at a peak rate of up to 400kW. This sees a 10-80 per cent top up in just 18 minutes.

With a full charge the Smart #5 Brabus can travel up to 540km on the WLTP test cycle.

Like the Smart #1 and #3 Brabus model, the latest fast SUV gets its own Brabus driving mode that sharpens up the throttle's response and adds a sporty soundtrack.

Smart has not yet announced whether the new 2025 the Smart #5 Brabus will be sold in Australia alongside the regular #5 that has been tipped to arrive in the second half of 2025 with pricing tipped to range from $70,000 to $100,000.

Recently, a plug-in hybrid version of the mid-size Smart SUV was also revealed that could offer a pure-electric range of up to 120km and a total range of 1420km with a full charge and brimmed tank of fuel.

It's thought both the Brabus version and PHEV could be in consideration but expect more details of the new performance flagship following its Shanghai reveal on April 23 and an official statement from Smart's local distributor LSH Auto is expected shortly.
