The 2025 XPeng G9 has freshened up ahead of its launch in Australia later this year, with updates that unlock both more power and range.
Following on from the recent facelift of the mid-size XPeng G6 that was introduced to Australia at the tail end of last year, the G9 adopts soft-close doors, an electric tailgate, fresh 20-inch alloy wheels and the choice of a new Black Warrior trim that adds black rims, logos and wheelarches.
Fresh tech includes the brand’s ‘Turing AI Intelligent’ driving system that is said to remove the need for LiDAR.
Like the G6, the G9 comes with an 800V electrical architecture that boasts more power, with the single e-motor producing 258kW (up from 230kW) while producing 465Nm of torque.
The second dual-motor version adds all-wheel drive and produces a more muscular 423kW and 695Nm of torque.
Available with either a 79kWh or a 93.1kWh battery pack, early reports suggest the range increases to up 625km, 680km or 712km on the lenient Chinese CLTC test cycle – that’s up from 570km, 650km and 702km.
Measuring in at 4891mm long, 1937mm wide and 1680mm tall, the XPeng G9 features a 2998mm wheelbase, which means it’s shorter, narrower and not as tall as a Kia EV9 (which measures 5015mm long,1980mm wide, and 1780mm tall).
Like before, the upgraded G9 still features plenty of driver assist tech that includes 11 cameras, three millimetre-wave radars and 12 ultrasonic radars. Thanks to the greater processing power and new AI software, the G9’s visual perception distance has been increased by 125 per cent over the outgoing LiDAR-equipped G9.
The on-board computer can recognise moving and stationary objects in the road ahead up to 40 per cent quicker.
Other hardware changes include tweaks to the front double wishbone suspension and its rear five-link independent rear suspension. No less than nine different driving modes are available.
Within, the XPeng G9 comes with three screens – a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and dual-14.96-inch infotainment screens – that run fresh software that supports 5G connectivity, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P cockpit chip and is capable of over-the-air updates.
Three new interior colours will be available from launch: Moon Shadow Coffee, Elegant Gray and Morning Glory Brown.
Pricing of the XPeng G9 in China starts at 263,900 Chinese yuan, which equates to around $A58,000.
There’s still no word when exactly the XPeng G9 will touch down in Australia but the car-maker’s local importer TruEV says keen buyers can register their interest on XPeng’s local website.
