The 2026 Hyundai Elexio electric SUV will be on sale in Australia within the first quarter of this year, with a sharp drive-away price of $59,990 locked in for the single-grade variant, putting Hyundai’s first Aussie-bound, Chinese-built model within swinging distance of key rivals like the Tesla Model Y and XPeng G6.

The 2026 Hyundai Elexio electric vehicle (EV) will touch down in the first quarter of the year, in a single Elite grade, jam-packed with standard equipment and with a sharp $59,990 introductory drive-away price for both private and fleet buyers.
That sees it undercut the equivalent Kia EV5 Long Range ($61,170 plus on-road costs) and in the same ballpark as the Tesla Model Y ($58,900 plus ORCs) and XPeng G6 Long Range ($59,800 plus ORCs), while the most affordable BYD Sealion 7 starts from $54,990 plus ORCs.
Measuring up at 4615mm long and 1875mm wide on a 2750mm wheelbase, the Elexio slots between the Kona Electric and IONIQ 5 SUV in Hyundai’s line-up and is based on the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP 400V architecture.

Its 88kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in a claimed 38 minutes, while a 160kW/310Nm electric motor sends power to the front wheels.
Meanwhile, the Elexio will come with bespoke Australian suspension and steering tuning following local testing conducted Down Under last year.
Standard features are set to include 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs), roof rails, flush exterior door handles, heated and power-fold side mirrors, powered tailgate, tinted windows, and leather-appointed upholstery with heated and ventilated front seats.

Inside, a 27-inch 4K ‘ultra-thin’ integrated display will offer navigation and over-the-air (OTA) updates and comes based on an Android Automotive operating system, while a head-up display, dual wireless phone charging, digital key, six-speaker sound system, and Bluelink connected services will come standard.
The five-seat SUV offers a 506-litre boot, extending to 1540 litres with the rear seats folded and a full suite of active safety gear will come standard, including highway driving assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, intelligent speed limit assist, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, a 360-degree camera, and more.
Five exterior colour options include Crystal White (standard), Medium Grey, Pebble Blue, Dragon Red, and Phantom Black, while interior upholstery colour choices extend to Obsidian Black or Dove Grey.

As carsales previously reported, the Elexio marks a key milestone for the Korean brand in its Chinese endeavours, being the first dedicated EV designed and developed primarily in China for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai – a joint venture between BAIC Motor and Hyundai Motor Company.
Hyundai Australia said final specifications and details will be released closer to the EV’s arrival due in just a few months.
