The Jaecoo J5 Hybrid has been priced for Australia and is due to arrive next month in a single Summit variant, slotting in between the established petrol and battery-electric siblings.

Powering the J5 Hybrid is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and 150kW e-motor which combine for total system outputs of 165kW/295Nm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission.
Those outputs are up on the standard petrol’s 108kW/210Nm figures and even mark an increase over the electric J5’s 155kW/288Nm – despite costing $2000 less.
Fuel consumption for the Hybrid is a claimed 5.6L/100km; an improvement on the petrol models’ 7.5L/100km claim.
Taking on the same exterior styling as its petrol sibling – bar the wheels – standard equipment includes 18-inch ‘aero’ alloy wheels, a fixed panoramic glass roof, LED daytime running lights, heated and ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate and pet-friendly faux leather seats.

A 13.2-inch infotainment screen brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while a 50W wireless phone charging pad is standard, as is an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient interior lighting, 360-degree camera, and voice assist.
Safety gear includes seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning.
The J5 Hybrid is due in Aussie showrooms next month and will come backed by the brand’s eight-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty with capped-price servicing (yet to be detailed) and roadside assistance over the same period.
